Rare Sights and Peaceful Thoughts

A large portion of the day today, in fact most of it, was spent in the safari land rover travelling from last nights hostel to our campsite in Serengeti National Park.  It was a pleasant trip, full of many beautiful animals and stunning viewpoints.  One of the highlights of the day was getting to see cheetahs!  We saw, resting in the shade of a thorny Acacia tree, a mother and her two young!  They were adorable and I got a couple of pictures of them.  They aren’t the best pictures, though, because the tree was sitting a fair distance from the road and cheetahs are smallish.  I also saw a herd of elephants with their young; absolutely adorable.  Many more pictures were taken.

Standing up in the jeep was peaceful and provided the perfect environment to think, what with the view of the expansive Serengeti plain.  I thought a lot about all the stories and pictures I will get to share form this trip, this adventure and I got very excited.  Again, I am beyond happy to be here experiencing all this.  Imagine looking out in front of you, seeing a long expanse all the way to the heat-hazed horizon of short grassland.  Feel the dust of the road settling on your sweat sticky skin and the wind in your hair.  Look at the pockets of elephants wandering in the distance amidst the dominant rise of old Acacia trees.  Upon the plain lie random upshots of rock, some over three stories high.  Those are called Kopjes and they are beautiful!
