‘Kilimanjaro’ and the Fish Market

Yesterday I had my first Tanzanian beer—a “Kilimanjaro” and today I had a “Serengeti,” both cost me little over a dollar aka ~1600 shilingi.  They both tasted pretty good and I was with great people when I drank them!

Right now Ramadan is going on and there is a Muslim Mosque not too far from my dorm.  That’s great and all, except for that they sing all night!  I’m a light sleeper and am definitely wearing earplugs from now on.

I went to an open-air fish market today, which was packed to the brim with curious local people.  They would look at you, but the moment you say ‘mambo’ (hello) their faces would light up and they would shake your hand.  That was super refreshing to me in such an over-stimulating environment.  To see welcoming, nice people in a completely foreign environment is always a relief.

Tomorrow night I will try the Internet so that I can communicate with my parents and Beth.  I miss them all terribly!
